We need community engagement in Strategic Plan

March 24, 2010

At Monday night’s meeting of the Imagine Caledon Stakeholder Advisory Team we brainstormed ideas for strategies, actions and partnerships for the Community-Based Strategic Plan.  All the work done to date has been carefully distilled down to 6 main goals and it was these that we focussed our energies on.

I feel very strongly that community engagement is vital in this process. I’m thrilled that so many of you took the time to complete the survey a few weeks back and encourage you all to now attend  one of the 2 upcoming Town Hall meetings:

Thursday March 25 – Brampton Christian School – 12480 Hurontario Street, Caledon – 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Monday March 29 – Caledon Community Complex – 6215 Old Church Road, Caledon East – 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

I’ll be at the Monday one and hope to see you there!

Can you summarize the 6 strategic goals that were” distilled” for Caledon.

      Yes Jerry; briefly:
      1) to preserve, protect & enhance our environment and our agricultural resources
      2) to facilitate development of a safe, beautiful, vibrant “community of communities” based on smart growth priniciples
      3) live healthily – promote active, healthy living for people of all ages & abilities by providing the necessary programs and facilities that foster wellness
      4) value and promote culture, heritage and the arts
      5) cultivate a diverse and prsperous economy by attracting and retaining employment & providing the required environment for businesses to thrive
      6) a committment to sound municipal government and open communication

The Strategic Planning sessions are not quite over – there was one slated for a council workshop today and I believe another in May – I’m really hoping that the community input on this (and there was lots) will remain
